A Balancing Act Joshua Karina Montalvo
In the quiet alchemy of dusk in Los Cabos—where desert relents into sea and the sky folds into a spectrum of impossible pinks—you might glimpse a figure on the shoreline, poised in stillness. She is balancing, not only in the physical sense but also between worlds, between breaths.
This is Joshua Karina Montalvo Román—“Joshi” to those who know her—a woman whose life has become an ode to equilibrium, presence, and the subtle power of returning to oneself.
Joshi was born in Ecuador, a land of contrasts—mountains and jungle, rain and stone, myth and morning. Her early years were shaped by this intensity and grace.
Thirteen years ago, she crossed into Mexico, settling in Querétaro. For nearly a decade, she quietly grew roots in a city that pulses with both colonial memory and modern vibrancy.
One invitation changed everything. A close friend who shared her passion for food invited her to Los Cabos.
“From that moment, I felt the magic of the place,” she recalls. The sun felt different, the sea spoke more clearly. She left—but Los Cabos never left her. A year ago, she began her new life on the edge of the ocean.
To call Joshi a “culinary enthusiast” is to undersell something sacred.
“Food connects the physical to our being,” she says. “It brings us home, not just to a place—but to ourselves.”
For Joshi, food is ritual. The kitchen is her chapel; ingredients, her instruments of memory and restoration.
If food is her grounding, balancing is her flight. For over a decade, Joshi has practiced the art of physical balance—on ropes, beams, and edges that would give most of us vertigo.
“Balancing demands everything,” she explains. “It’s physical, yes, but it also requires mental clarity and emotional honesty. It has helped me face fears—especially the fear of the unknown.”
Her practice is less about conquering fear and more about carrying it gracefully.
Joshi recently visited N’espa, not for indulgence, but for alignment.
“It was part of my commitment to stay balanced,” she says. “To show up for myself, in all the ways that matter.”
At N’espa, she found the same values that guide her life: intention, presence, and the quiet power of pause.
Her days now unfold in a deliberate rhythm. She cooks. She balances. She walks the beach with her fiancé and two dogs, breathing in the salt air.
For Joshi, the sea represents freedom—not recklessness, but the wisdom of knowing when to let go and when to root down.
When asked what she truly wants from life, Joshi doesn’t hesitate.
“To be present for myself. To stop performing out of necessity. To find stability even in the unknown.”
And so, on the sand, in the sun, in both stillness and motion, Joshi lives her intention.
If you want to taste Cabo with the same love and intention Joshi cherishes, here are her recommendations:
Chez Blue Café
Cinthia’s Fresh Cabo
Flora Farms
Organik
Each of these spots honors ingredients, origins, and the power of food to bring us home.
